Michael weidemann - about me
My story is the most precious thing I have. It's who I am, what I have to offer the world. Storytelling was something engrained into me from a young age, I used to cherish the road trips my dad and I would take to the Sierra Mountains and hear tales of my dad's adventures with bears, climbing, and photography in the Yosemite Valley growing up.
When I was eighteen, my dad gave me a camera to try out on a class trip. That summer, I bought my first camera and started taking pictures. I never in a million years dreamed of doing it for a living, mostly what I captured was architecture and landscapes. But, in college I was asked to shoot a Brazilian wedding while in Lisbon, Portugal for a semester. After that, I began taking on random opportunities to photograph families, seniors, and couples.
Capturing stories with my camera is my biggest passion in life. No, seriously, I live and breathe for it. I love reading independent magazine and books that tell real life stories of creatives, makers, designers, and explorers in pieces like Kinfolk, Cereal Magazine, and the Collective Quarterly. When I'm not working with couples, I try to work with local entrepreneurs and businesses on design, branding, and photography to have those incredible moments seeing people pour their heart into what they do. That's why I love weddings as well.
I want to stay inspired, that's why I stay with my camera. Even after countless weddings I still get chills at first dances and first looks. It keeps me hopeful in a world that gets messy that there is still rays of light that keep us warm and looking forward to a better tomorrow. Everyone's story has those moments, my goal is honestly to help share more of those, because guess what: we need your story!
My style has been noted to be personal and documentary. I like to make sure you're comfortable in front of the camera, and be apart of the moments you two have together. I want to be in there when you two laugh, wrap each other up, and go in for the most treasured kisses. I want my work to reflect a real and honest side of your story. I want my work to be timeless and the images I give to be something treasured for decades to come. That is my goal, and I'm so grateful for each encounter I have with couples on their own journeys.
This summer I myself and eloping with the love of my life in Iceland, so adventure is something we both live for. Getting to travel with my camera, with my soon to be wife at my side, is the ultimate goal. When we're not at coffee shops or taking road trips, we're playing with our puppy Hendrix, a Golden Retriever / Irish Setter mix. Our favorite part of this industry is the friendships made and the constant exchange of stories with our couples!
I look forward to hearing more of your story,
